UpRooted Dance launches THREE new classes at Glen Echo Park this Spring!
EMBODIED ARTIST AND PERFORMANCE
Calling ALL Artists! This class is for all artists working in performance-including musicians, filmmakers, spoken word, acting/theater arts, animators, installation artists, performance artists, dancers and choreographers.

Bring a tangible or visible form of an idea, quality, or feeling to life! Explore your unique artistry with Keira Hart, artistic director of UpRooted Dance, in a creative laboratory environment. For the first 5 weeks, participants will be led through a variety of choreographic and artistic explorations. Participants will then workshop one of their creations with the class cohort and receive feedback from their peers, resulting in a 1–8 minute time-based performance piece. Participants will be given the opportunity to present their work in a fully produced performance alongside UpRooted Dance at Glen Echo on May 28-30, 2026. Participants can create individual works or work in collaboration with other class participants. Minimum age 18.

EMBODIED MOVEMENT
Absolute beginners welcome. Taking exercises from Kelly King’s book, “Your Embodied Life - A Field Guide to Joy,” this class offers creative pathways toward self-expression. Rooted in Kelly King’s B.E.S.S.T. definition of dance: Dance is moving your Body with specific Effort qualities making Shapes in Space relative to Time, we’ll connect emergent themes to movement each class and create a physical score of generated and improvised movements. EMBODIED AGING
This class is for any aging body - yes, yours! We’ll explore new movement possibilities, accessing joy and pleasure through dance. Together, we’ll cultivate spatial awareness, ease in coordination and choreography with emphasis on balance, stability, flexibility, and flow. And, most importantly, we’ll build new community connections through movement.
